All shots were taken with a Nikon F-3 camera, piggybacked on a 16" Meade LX200 telescope. Guiding was done with an SBIG STV. The images were shot at the New Mexico Skies guest observatory in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. ![]()

Jim Cuca's CAS member presents: "Star Clouds and Nebulosity in Cygnus" Jim took this stunning image on September 20, 2003 at Apple River Canyon State Park. He used a 50mm f1.4 Nikon lens stepped down to f2.8 and a Nikon F-3 camera, piggybacked on Meade 8" LX200 GPS. The exposure was 12 minutes and unguided except for the clock dive on his Meade 8" LX200 scope. The image was taken on Kodak Supra 400 and minor processing included cropping to eliminate obstruction caused by dew heater wrapped around OTA; minor adjustments in Photoshop for contrast and color.
On Thursday night, May 15th, 2003 CAS member Jeff Benuzzi went out to the Fox Valley Astronomical Society's public viewing site in Geneva, IL to view and photograph the eclipse. Jeff reports, “At first, it was doubtful that we were going to be able to see the eclipse as the sky was almost complete cloud-covered.” Good thing for us that Jeff hung in there! Jeff, reports that he had a FABULOUS TIME!” Here is a composite of the images that Jeff took. Jeff allowed me to also put together an animation of the event. To view the animation you will need Macromedia’s Flash player 5.0 or greater. Thanks Jeff for the great pictures! To see more of Jeff’s work visit his web site Jeff’s Driveway Astronomy Page.
